Coalville Car Club
Weekly Bulletin No: 157 - 2nd
June 2009
Thanks to everyone who turned out for the Huntsman on Saturday. I’m still
waiting for a full list of who was there and I’ll put the points up as
soon as I can. The Test was the only one fully manned, and none were better
run. It was great to see so many friendly faces, and waves, it helped a lot.
Chris & I
finished 13th O/A & 5th in Class, even allowing for 3 Maximums on the
daytime run (Beached twice at Staunton Harold, and one Test where I didn't have
my brain in gear) then we missed a control on the Road Rally, my fault for
taking a slot while Chris was plotting, and then running very late on the Night
Selectifs and having to cut and miss 2 tests to avoid OTL. So generally not too
bad, considering how rusty we are, and a new FWD car which is the first I've
ever driven in competition.
There’s
some pictures and a video in the 2009 Gallery.
Twyford wasn't
as bad as we expected, but just as rough as I remembered. Some people liked it
and others didn't, probably depending on how well they went or if they broke
anything. Having said that I'm glad they only had 1 test on it, which was 1 ¾ laps
and took us something like 13 minutes. I think it would be at best 'ambitious'
to run a SV on it now, but we'll see. All it needs is a bit of a scrape from a
bulldozer to take out some of the nasty bits, and care in it's use. Of course
we only did one test, so what else has happened to the rest of the venue I
can't say.
Chris Faulkner
is looking for a navigator for the Mercia MS Gold & Silver Goblets
Multivenue Autotest, July 4th. Chris
& Alice Thorley will be using the Sierra. They will also be defending the
Cloverleaf Trophy that Chris & I have won for the last 2 years, so I also
need a Navigator for the Bullnose Enduro
on September 5th. &
due to Chris’s Holiday for either the Mercian or the Harvest on
Sept 19/20th . If you are
interested, please give me a call. Charlie Francis & Iain Jones are also
entered, so hopefully we’ll see the rest of you out marshalling one of
the Test Venues. Contact JayBee if you haven’t already aj-brindley@hotmail.co.uk.
Steve and Tony Graham recorded another DNF,
this time on the Jim Clark. Their transmission failed two stages from the
finish after hitting a rock two stages earlier.
Dave Walker was out on both the
Loughborough and Rugby Grass Autotests last week, finishing 3rd &
1st in class. While Charlie Francis marshalled on the Rugby event.
We have been asked to Marshal on this
year’s Aviva Classic Rally (ex
Norwich Union) on Sunday Sept 20th;
we usually support this, in the past at Snibstone. Last year their
‘Thanks Cheque’ paid for the Buffet at the Awards Night. This year
they would like help at MIRA, see
below:
I am the
route co-ordinator for the Chester start of the Aviva Classic Rally - formerly
known as the Norwich Union Classic which this year will be held on Sunday Sept
20th. The route will call in at MIRA, Hinkley en route to the finish at
Silverstone and I wonder if any of your Club members may be willing to
help marshal the stage. The first car is due at MIRA at approx 11.20 (times are
not yet finalised) and the cars from Chester are followed by those from the
Nottingham start which will arrive from about 12.30. The whole event should be
clear of the stage by about 2.30 to 3pm.
Last year there
were about 100 cars from each start venue so about 200 cars could be expected.
No timing is involved - merely proof of passage on a competitor's card plus a
check sheet. Normally only a handful of marshals are needed at the various
controls but since MIRA is ultra sensitive, they usually require a small token
presence in stage to ensure cars do not go astray or to report breakdowns etc.
If you would like to go, please let John
know. It’s the day after the Mercian and hopefully we can support both.
Regs and Entry Forms are now available for
the Mercia MS Gold & Silver Goblets
Multivenue Autotest, Chris Valentine has asked
us to host them so just follow the Link on the Home page. The date is Sat. July 4th , if you may be
interested in marshalling could you let John Brindley know as we have been asked to
provide a Crew of one of the Venues. Chris Thorley is
again borrowing the Sierra to compete with Alice, and so Chris Faulkner is
looking for a navigator for the Peugeot.
Rugby MC have again asked us to help on
the Mallory Park Stages on the Rally of the Midlands on June 19/20.
There are 6 Stages at Mallory, in pairs. One visit on Friday evening and 2
visits on Saturday. Duncan Lord is Stage Commander. Since Rugby helped us on
the Huntsman, we need to get as big a team as possible out on both events. If
you can go on either (or both) Friday and Saturday, please let John Brindley aj-brindley@hotmail.co.uk know.
Beverley &
District Motor Club is running the Armstrong Massey
Rally on Sunday 5th July.
The event is a Single Venue Stage Rally, and is being run on Driffield Airfield in East Yorkshire. There will be 8 stages giving
a total stage distance of around 54 miles. The surface is mostly smooth and slightly
broken concrete and tarmac, with small sections of loose/rough surface. The
rougher sections used last year will not be used again this year. The event is
a round of the 'Fostek Engineering ANCC Northern Stage Rally Championship' and
the Yorkshire League.
The entry fee is extremely good value, at
only £185, and there is no penalty for any withdrawn entries. Payment can also
be made by Credit Card through our association with Paypal. Regulations and
Online Entry Forms, and an Unseeded Entry List are now available on the club's
website at http://www.bdmc.org.uk
and competitors are encouraged to enter online, as this speeds up the process
considerably. In due course, the website will also contain Final Instructions,
Seeded Entry List, and Live Results (courtesy of http://www.rallies.info)
Marshals will be contacted closer to the
time, but in the meantime anyone wishing to volunteer to marshal should contact
the Chief Marshal, Mark Edwards (e-mail: mark@bdmc.org.uk or 07813 182123). Signing on
will be from 7:30am to 8am.
