New Members

Welcome to New Member Matthew Grocock, and also to Pip Clode & Ben Hodgkinson who have now joined us as well.

 

Chris Faulkner & James Worth were at Bramcote on Sunday for the Barracks Open Day Rally Car Rides Experience. This is a way of saying Thankyou to the Base Commander for letting us use the place for Autosolos, the Stages for the Rally of the Midlands, and the Mercia MS Gold & Silver Goblets Multivenue Autotest. Sadly both cars failed to complete the day, Chris’s 106 suffered top mount failure, while James’s Sunbeam snapped a half-shaft. Thanks to Colin, Rob, Leanne & Debbie for your ‘service support’.

Coalville crews made up a third of the entries for the Mercia MS Gold & Silver Goblets Multivenue Autotest, on Saturday. While John Brindley led a Coalville Team to Marshal the Bramcote Tests. Well done everyone, and thanks. Results are;

For Club Points we have treated the event in the same way as a Production Car Trial, with ½ points to Navigators. The Marshal’s points will be updated when I get a full list from JayBee. It seems a shame there weren’t more entries, as the Grass Autotests and the Bramcote Autosolos are so well supported. Good to see so many CCC crews out though. It was a fun event to do, and hopefully will become a regular feature in the Calendar.

We’ve been invited to Loughborough’s ‘All Day Autosolo’ on August 2nd. As usual at Bramcote Barracks.

Regs are now out for the Mercia M.S. Historic Motorsports Mercian Rally on September 19/20. Click HERE   There will soon be a call for Marshal’s so please put the date in your Diary. This event has always been supported by the Club, and last year’s was the best ever.

Sheffield & Hallamshire M.C. are running their Centenary Rally at R.A.F. Barkston Heath, which is near Grantham, MR 130/976418. This is an operational RAF Base, and is only used very rarely. It takes place on Sunday August 9th. They confidently expect a full entry! there is (very!) secure overnight Camping/Caravaning available, no spectators (men with Guns) so if you want to look at this exciting new venue you will just have to marshal. Chris & Alice Thorley will also be defending the Cloverleaf Trophy that Chris’s F&T have won for the last 2 years, so Rob Birtles will be navigating for Chris Faulkner on the Bullnose Enduro on September 5th. If all goes well they are also hoping to do either the Mercian or the Harvest on Sept 19/20th

Loughborough C.C.’s summer Autosolo & Grass Autotest Season has started, for full details see the Loughborough Website

We’ve been invited to Loughborough’s ‘All Day Autosolo’ on August 2nd. As usual at Bramcote Barracks.

Rugby M.C.s Grass Autotest season started on May 27th Full details are on the Rugby Website.

Beverley & District Motor Club is running the Armstrong Massey Rally on Sunday 5th July.

The event is a Single Venue Stage Rally, and is being run on Driffield Airfield in East Yorkshire. There will be 8 stages giving a total stage distance of around 54 miles. The surface is mostly smooth and slightly broken concrete and tarmac, with small sections of loose/rough surface. The rougher sections used last year will not be used again this year. The event is a round of the 'Fostek Engineering ANCC Northern Stage Rally Championship' and the Yorkshire League.

The entry fee is extremely good value, at only £185, and there is no penalty for any withdrawn entries. Payment can also be made by Credit Card through our association with Paypal. Regulations and Online Entry Forms, and an Unseeded Entry List are now available on the club's website at http://www.bdmc.org.uk and competitors are encouraged to enter online, as this speeds up the process considerably. In due course, the website will also contain Final Instructions, Seeded Entry List, and Live Results (courtesy of http://www.rallies.info)

Marshals will be contacted closer to the time, but in the meantime anyone wishing to volunteer to marshal should contact the Chief Marshal, Mark Edwards (e-mail: mark@bdmc.org.uk or 07813 182123). Signing on will be from 7:30am to 8am.

We have been asked to Marshal on this year’s Aviva Classic Rally (ex Norwich Union) on Sunday Sept 20th; we usually support this, in the past at Snibstone. Last year their ‘Thanks Cheque’ paid for the Buffet at the Awards Night. This year they would like help at MIRA, see below:

I am the route co-ordinator for the Chester start of the Aviva Classic Rally - formerly known as the Norwich Union Classic which this year will be held on Sunday Sept 20th. The route will call in at MIRA, Hinkley en route to the finish at Silverstone and I wonder if any of your Club members may be willing to help marshal the stage. The first car is due at MIRA at approx 11.20 (times are not yet finalised) and the cars from Chester are followed by those from the Nottingham start which will arrive from about 12.30. The whole event should be clear of the stage by about 2.30 to 3pm.

Last year there were about 100 cars from each start venue so about 200 cars could be expected. No timing is involved - merely proof of passage on a competitor's card plus a check sheet. Normally only a handful of marshals are needed at the various controls but since MIRA is ultra sensitive, they usually require a small token presence in stage to ensure cars do not go astray or to report breakdowns etc.

If you would like to go, please let John know. It’s the day after the Mercian and hopefully we can support both.
